"Seasick Steve: He began recording his own music much later in life than other musicians. His first solo album, Doghouse Music, out in late 2006, was performed almost entirely by Wold. Another record, Cheap, was recorded with the Swedish rhythm section the Level Devils. An amorous seven-track Valentine’s Day EP called Songs for Elisabeth arrived in 2010. He released the stark and powerful You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks in 2011.
He was well received in the UK, winning the 2007 MOJO Award for Best Breakthrough Act and going on to appear at major UK festivals. In 2009, Wold was nominated for a Brit Award in the category of International Solo Male Artist. In February 2010, Seasick Steve was nominated for a Brit Award in the category of International Solo Male Artist for the second consecutive year.
Hubcup Music:
6th offering from Seasick, and it follows similar patterns to those gone before - heartfelt sheer blues brilliance with country tones sneaking in on a track or two. “Down on the farm”- It’s more of a full band orientated rock n roll vibe song than some of the more stripped back tunes that we are may be used to from him. “Self Sufficient Man”- It’s the kind music that you wish you could just per chance wonder in to some low key back street blues bar and be totally blown away by your new discovery and what you’re witnessing. “Purple Shadows” also lends itself to the country genre “Home”- turns up the foot stomping head nodding blues, right before ’Hope’ takes it straight back down and implies he’s still only too aware of the struggles of life.
His music brings that small honest humble guy trying to make a living from what he loves, and he brings it centre stage and to bigger audiences."
