"OneRepublic’s varied style of music has been described by Ryan Tedder: ""We’re no respecter of genre. If its a good song or a good artist whether rock, pop, indie or hip hop, they’ve probably influenced us on some level...nothing’s new under the sun, we’re a sum of a bunch of parts."" They cite The Beatles and U2 as heavier influences on its music. OneRepublic has expressed a desire to move listeners onstage the way U2 does.
Allmusic commented on the band’s sound, ""... OneRepublic recalls the melodies of the Fray and the vocal acrobatics of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine... and often favors cathartic, cranked-up choruses."" However, Tedder downplays Martin’s Coldplay as an influence; ""Their influences are our influences. The big difference, though, is that I come from a much wider hip-hop and urban background. I’ve been producing, writing and performing urban stuff, and I try to bring that into the group because we’re not trying to be a British band."" Drew Brown also stated: ""We aren’t all die-hard Coldplay fans, but because of the comparisons, we’ve done our research, and I’m sure we’ve got a large handful of common influences.""
Native SEA Tour Edition: is the special edition of OneRepublic for South East Asia Tour for their third studio album Native. It was released on March 22, 2013 in Germany and Ireland, March 25 worldwide except North America, and March 26 in North America. The artwork for the album was brought up on the idea of how different each member of the group is from each other and that each one of the band members is like a different animal. Frontman Ryan Tedder is represented by a fox, drummer Eddie Fisher is represented by a mountain lion, rhythm guitarist Drew Brown is an owl, bassist Brent Kutzle is a gazelle, and lead guitarist Zach Filkins is the bison. Brent Kutzle came up with the idea of calling the album Native. It means indigenous to every country and how different they are as individuals.
""Feel Again"" was originally released as the lead single from the then-untitled Native on August 27, 2012. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the single was donated to Save the Children’s Every Beat Matters campaign to support training frontline health workers around the world. The single reached #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #59 on the Canadian Hot 100. ""Counting Stars"" was released as the lead single in the UK and several other countries. The song has become their most successful thus far from the album charting within the top five in Australia, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland and New Zealand, and being certified 3x Platinum in Australia and Platinum in New Zealand.
